    Bordeaux relegated to third tier over financial issues

    The DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, has this afternoon taken the decision to relegate Bordeaux to the third tier over Les Girondins’ financial situation. The team had already gone down to Ligue 2 at the end of the current top flight season, having finished rock bottom of the league after a catastrophic season in a sporting season that saw them concede no less than 91 goals. Bordeaux will have a week to appeal the decision, with another two weeks afterwards to present their situation at another hearing with the DNCG.     UNFP criticise UEFA’s plans for an ‘opening’ Champions League tournament from 2024

    The UNFP, the Union of Professional Footballers in France, has already criticised UEFA’s new summer tournament proposals because it adds more fixtures to an already-crowded international calendar.  L’Équipe reported yesterday that UEFA will introduce a new yearly summer pre-season tournament to mark the start of the Champions League campaign from 2024 onwards. This tournament features four games that will likely be played in a ‘finals’ format in the USA in order to promote the Champions League and bring in further revenue.     Monaco enquire about Roma’s Justin Kluivert

    Il Romanista is reporting that AS Monaco have enquired about Roma forward Justin Kluivert (23) after OGC Nice didn’t activate the purchase option on the player following his loan spell at the club last season.  The Principality side have reportedly made contact with the Europa Conference League champions and were told that it would take around €15m to prise the Dutchman away from the Italian capital.  Roma’s belief is that, following a good season at Monaco’s Riviera rivals Nice, there is no justification for decreasing the asking price that was inserted into his loan contract, which reportedly stands at €14.5m.     Marseille make loan offer for Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares

    Foot Mercato report this afternoon that Marseille have made an offer for Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares consisting of a loan deal with an option to buy. The Gunners have yet to respond to the bid for the time being but are open to the idea of letting the Portuguese youth international go out on loan, with Serie A side Atalanta also said to be among Taveres’ potential suitors.
