Piers Morgan slams ‘PATHETIC’ Mesut Ozil and questions Arsenal midfielder’s heart on Drivetime
Piers Morgan slammed Mesut Ozil for ‘not having the heart’ to play for Arsenal and thinks the midfielder may well be off soon.
Signed in 2013 from Real Madrid for a club record £42.5million, Ozil initially lit up the Premier League with his silky skills and vision.
However, his inconsistent form and failure to nail down a regular place has continually frustrated Gunners fans.
While presenting Drivetime alongside Adrian Durham from the Emirates, Morgan conceded the 30-year-old was an incredible player.
But the Arsenal-mad fan was left infuriated by what he described as ‘a tragedy’ and a perceived lack of drive ahead of the FA Cup clash live on talkSPORT.
“Purely on ability, he is a world class footballer,” he said
“I’ve got to say that, Emery has concluded, he has got no heart – he has got no ticker.
“He may be a great player, when he wants to be, but who wants to have a top player on £350,000-a-week who has not got the heart to come into every game and give 100%?
“Ozil I think has been found out by Emery. I think he coasted under Wenger and I think we will be saying goodbye to him sooner rather than later.
“Although I hate to have to admit this, you have been right about Ozil from the start. It’s a tragedy; I don’t know what has happened to him.
“On his day, he is one of the best in the world. When he was at Real Madrid – fantastic. A few games for Arsenal he’s been brilliant.
“But for nearly half a million pounds a week he can’t even get on the bench for some of the Premier League games now. Pathetic.”
With Aaron Ramsey off to Juventus in the summer, Emery may well sell Ozil to fund moves for a new-look central midfielder.
