West Ham transfer news: Latest updates on Maxi Gomez, Javier Hernandez, Marko Arnautovic and John Fleck

West Ham United’s start to 2019 has been tempestuous, to say the least.

After enjoying their best ever month in Premier League history in December, the Hammers confirmed Declan Rice had signed a new deal.

However, just a fortnight later, the agent of star man Marko Arnautovic exclusively told talkSPORT his client wanted to leave the East End to secure a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.

A defeat away to Bournemouth soon followed, before an embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of League One strugglers AFC Wimbledon.

As if that wasn’t enough drama, Arnautovic then signed a contract extension to quash rumours of a move this month.

However, there are still two days left until transfer deadline day and the Irons are still being linked with moves for top players, with departures also a distinct possibility.

talkSPORT.com have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours involving the Hammers’ before the window slams shut at 11pm on Thursday.

Maxi Gomez deal ‘close to breakthrough’

Despite Arnautovic committing his immediate future to West Ham, a move for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez still appears to be close.

Sky Sports claim the club want to meet the Uruguay international’s £43.2million release clause and a deal could be done soon.

Gomez has scored nine goals in 19 La Liga games for Celta this season.

The club’s precarious league position at the wrong end of the table means a loan move back to Spain is being explored.

Javier Hernandez ‘expects’ La Liga move

Despite Manuel Pellegrini wanting the Mexico international to stay, Javier Hernandez appears to be closing in on a move to Valencia.

Having scored just 13 goals in 50 appearances, it’s safe to say the move has not been the resounding success David Sullivan thought it would when he told talkSPORT: “I think he is potentially the best player who has ever come to the club.”

According to the Daily Star, the striker ‘expects’ Valencia will make a bid for him before the end of the transfer window and is keen to leave.

A bid of £7million has been mooted, but the Hammers want £10million for a player they signed for £16million in the summer of 2017.

Hammers eyeing Championship star

Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly interested in completing a deal for Birmingham City striker Che Adams, with a bid of £10million reportedly being readied.

According to the Daily Star, the east Londoners have scouted the Championship ace after he has grabbed 14 goals in 28 games this season.

Garry Monk is reluctant to sell his star forward this month, but a transfer embargo and financial restrictions may force the Blues to sell.

The Hammers are willing to gamble and wait until Deadline Day in order to force Birmingham’s hand.

Marko Arnautovic slammed by Hammers legend

Tony Cottee has blasted the Austria striker for his attitude in the wake of his failed move to China.

Despite committing his future by signing a contract extension until 2023, Arnautovic did not play against Bournemouth or AFC Wimbledon as the Hammers slipped to defeat.

And Cottee told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast the 29-year-old should have ‘got on’ with his job.

West Ham make second bid for John Fleck

In a surprise turn of events, the Hammers have been linked with a move for Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck.

After having an initial bid of £4million rejected, The Sun claim West Ham are expected to return with an improved bid before Thursday.

Manager Chris Wilder is keen to keep the 27-year-old Scotland international, but could sanction a move if a replacement is found.

Fleck played for Blackpool and Rangers before joining the Blades in 2016 and has been a major part of the club’s push for the Premier League.
