Marseille President to attempt to bring Dimitri Payet back this month
Marseille President Eyraud has decided to attempt to bring French international attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet back to the club this month in what would be a simply crazy deal, according to L’Équipe.
OM have decided to pursue a transfer policy that generally speaking, at least for January, centres around French speaking players or those who have prior experience of the peculiar atmosphere involved with being a Marseille player.
Dimitri Payet, who will be 30 shortly, ticks both of those boxes and recently stated that he was open to returning to Marseille in an interview with SFR Sport.
“I am not closing the door to anything. Marseille have a new project which seems interesting. Aside from that, we are obviously waiting to see the first few things that the new owners do, but Marseille knows how attached I am to the club. When I talk about it, I say the best possible things, because that is what I think, so why not.”
Eyraud is going to try to bring the player back for between €30m and €40m this month, but West Ham United are very unlikely to accept Payet’s departure and the operation that the Marseille President is trying to carry out appears fruitless.

However, Payet is perhaps more open than the London club realises…
More undoubtedly to follow in the coming weeks.
