Lamine Koné set to return to Sunderland

L’Équipe report this morning that 30-year-old central defender Lamine Koné is set to return to Sunderland this summer, despite an option to buy clause existing in his current loan deal with Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

The reasons why Europa League-qualified RCSA are not activating this option are not included in the piece, nor is the size of that purchase clause, which could be the root of the problem.

The Black Cats remain hopeful of winning promotion to the Championship for next season.
