Neymar “threw himself on the ground and made a scene” to force red card says Marseille coach
As quoted by Le Phoceen, in speaking before Marseille’s game with Lens this weekend, OM coach Igor Tudor discussed the sending off of his defender Samuel Gigot for a tackle on Neymar last weekend at PSG. Tudor suggested that Gigot didn’t make contact with the Brazilian and that the PSG man’s reaction forced the red card, despite having initially given the referee, Clément Turpin, a positive review of his performance. Tudor explained:
“I guess, after seeing the pictures it’s true that my opinion was maybe a bit exaggerated. Maybe, in the end, the referee was not as good as I though at first. We can leave it there… I don’t believe that putting pressure on the referee changes or influences decisions, maybe I’m wrong. Afterwards, I shared my opinion on the red card and that the referee’s decision comes from intention, since he [Gigot] did not touch the player [Neymar]… If Neymar had had a normal reaction to the foul, without throwing himself on the ground and making a scene, I think the referee wouldn’t have given a red card, but a yellow instead. I think that this exaggerated reaction changed the situation, since the referee seems to have believed it a little.”
