Arsenal's Mkhitaryan set to miss Everton clash

The Armenia international picked up an ankle injury in the Gunners’ Europa League win against Vorskla and may sit out their next Premier League game

Henrikh Mkhitaryan may miss out on Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Everton after the Armenia international sustained an ankle injury during the Gunners’ Europa League win against Vorskla on Thursday.

The 29-year-old will face an assessment ahead of Sunday’s home game with the Toffees, according to a club statement.

Arsenal also provide further updates on Sead Kolasinac (knee), Ainsley Maitland-Niles (broken leg) and Carl Jenkinson (ankle). with the trio expected to return to full training early next month.

Laurent Koscielny meanwhile has begun outside training as he continues to recover from an Achilles injury.

Mkhitaryan arrived at the Emirates Stadium on a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez following a lukewarm spell with Manchester United, and has made 23 appearances for the club so far, scoring four goals.

He originally started his career at Armenian side Pyunik in 2006 before stints with Metalurh Donetsk and Shakhtar Donetsk took him to the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

At international level, Mkhitaryan has been capped 76 times since making his debut for his country in 2007, with 25 goals to his name.

The Gunners lie seventh in the Premier League ahead of their meeting with Everton, and are on a four-game winning streak in all competitions.
