Aston Villa make loan offer for Burnley defender Ben Gibson – reports

Aston Villa have made an offer to sign Ben Gibson on loan from Burnley, reports claim.

The 26-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance for Sean Dyche’s side since his £12million move from Middlesbrough last summer.

According to Sky Sports News, Villa are hoping to strike a temporary deal with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Gibson became Burnley’s record signing in the summer, but after two hernia operations, he has failed to make his mark at Turf Moor.

Villa chief executive Christian Purslow has publicly stated his reluctance to sign players on loan and return them to their parent clubs.

Burnley boss Dyche has admitted it is difficult for his club to do business this month and does not want to sell anyone before the window shuts.

The Clarets are currently three points clear of safety in 16th, while Villa sit four points adrift of the Championship play-off spots in their chase for promotion.
