Nasser Al-Khelaïfi again acquitted in case linked to ‘FIFAgate’ scandal

As reported by L’Équipe, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has again been acquitted following an appeal trial over a case linked to the ‘FIFAgate’ scandal held in March.

The decision of the Court of Appeal of the Federal Criminal Court in Switzerland came this morning and followed the first ruling on the case in 2020, which absolved Al-Khelaïfi, also president of broadcasters the beIN Media Group, of wrongdoing in relation to the granting of television rights for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups.

Prosecutors had sought a 28-month prison sentence for Al-Khelaïfi over the case concerning the ‘instigation of aggravated dishonest management’.

Fellow defendant, Frenchman Jérôme Valcke, former secretary general of FIFA, was sentenced to an eleven-month suspended prison sentence and handed a fine, although the prosecution had requested 35 months in prison for Valcke. Greek defendant Konstantinos Nteris, the third defendant in the case, was given a ten-month suspended prison sentence.
