Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice confirmed this week that the Breton club negotiated a deal to receive a percentage of any value added to a subsequent transfer for the Brazilian forward as the player moved to England for around €20m back in 2020.
Spanish reports suggest at a €70m deal, including bonuses, for the player to join Barcelona is possible with Arsenal and Chelsea also monitoring the situation. Should that happen, Rennes would reportedly receive 20% of the €50m added on top of their initial sale of the player – which equates to a windfall of around €10m. However, Maurice didn’t confirm the exact size of the percentage involved.
The 25-year-old scored eight times and added seven assists in 36 games for SRFC before contributing to 29 goals in 67 Leeds outings since his move, including 11 Premier League goals last season.
