Good news for Irish star as Notts County players allowed to join new clubs

THERE WAS GOOD news tonight for Irish international Louise Quinn and her Notts County teammates following a difficult few days.

It was announced on Friday that the club’s women’s team had folded just days before they were due to open their Women’s Super League One Spring Series campaign, with Quinn last week telling The42 that the news had come as a “massive shock,” leaving its players jobless and facing uncertain futures.

There was concern particularly given that the team’s English internationals, Carly Telford, Jo Potter, Laura Bassett and Jade Moore, are set to be part of their country’s squad for Euro 2017 this summer.

Yet widespread relief greeted today’s confirmation from the Football Association that the Notts County players would be granted permission to move to other English clubs “with immediate effect”.

“Players are now in a position to sign for new clubs in England. They may also move to leagues in other countries where the transfer window is open.”

In a separate statement, the Professional Footballers’ Association added: “We have also been in discussions with the FA and FAWSL to ensure that players can register with other clubs outside of the transfer window given the exceptional circumstances the players find themselves in due to no fault of their own.”
