Fabian Johnson forced off with muscle injury for Borussia Monchengladbach

The American midfielder could be in doubt for his country’s World Cup qualifier on March 24 after being substituted early on against Schalke

Fabian Johnson was forced off with a muscle injury in the first half of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Europa League match against Schalke.

The U.S. international had to depart the second leg of the round-of-16 tie just 16 minutes in with what the club later confirmed was a muscle problem.

The timing of Johnson’s injury couldn’t be worse for his country. The U.S. national team will face Honduras in a crucial World Cup qualifier on March 24, before facing Panama four days later.
