Chelsea vs Tottenham player ratings: The best and worst from Carabao Cup clash at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea booked their place in the Carabao Cup final after beating Tottenham in a penalty shoot-out at Stamford Bridge.

N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard put the Blues 2-1 up on aggregate before Fernando Llorente forced penalties.

Eric Dier and Lucas Moura missed for the north Londoners and the home side were perfect from the spot to set up a date with Manchester City in the final next month.

Chelsea:

Kepa Arrizabalaga: No chance with Llorente’s close-range header. Saved very well from Moura at the key time in the shoot-out. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta: An assured performance as ever from the captain and blasted home perfect penalty. 6

Antonio Rudiger: Some timely headers but was caught out with Spurs’ long-balls in the second half. 6

David Luiz: Overcame early leg injury to impose himself but Spurs pushed him back in second half. Settled the penalties with powerful strike to send Chelsea into the final. 7

Emerson Palmieri: Got up and down from left-back well. 6

N’Golo Kante: Sparked the second-leg with a fierce drive from range and was good throughout. 7

Jorginho: Booked for nasty challenge on Rose and again didn’t look at his best but superb from the spot. 6

Ross Barkley: Not a memorable night for the England ace but linked play well at times. Taken off with ten minutes to go. 6

Pedro: Tricky and spritely throughout without a killer finish. Replaced by Willian with 15 minutes left. 7

Eden Hazard: Superbly taken goal and could have had more on another day. Looked much better in his preferred position and was a real threat. 8

Olivier Giroud: A quiet night for the Frenchman before missing two stoppage time chances to win it. Linked play well but should have settled tie. 5

Subs:

Willian: On for Pedro. Struggled to make an impact in normal time but scored Chelsea’s first penalty. 5

Mateo Kovacic: Replaced Barkley late on. 5

Unused subs: Caballero, Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu, Piazon, Alonso.

Tottenham:

Paulo Gazzaniga: Produced some superb long-range passes and did well. No chance with either goal or in the shoot-out. 6

Serge Aurier: A surprisingly subdued evening and was caught out of position at times. 5

Toby Alderweireld: Had chances in attack but Spurs would have wanted him more solid at the back. 6

Jan Vertonghen: Won’t be happy with Chelsea’s opener but was good from then on. 6

Ben Davies: Off early after suffering an apparent groin injury. 5

Eric Dier: One or two early clashes before settling into the tie. Fired penalty high into the crowd. 5

Harry Winks: Defended well but was left behind by Hazard at times. 5

Moussa Sissoko: Still returning to full fitness so couldn’t use his normal powerful runs and looked a step behind before going off injured. 5

Christian Eriksen: Gave job of keeping Jorginho off the ball and did it well. Showed his creativity in flashes. Scored opening penalty. 7

Erik Lamela: Found it tough to get involved and was perhaps lucky to escape red card after arm caught Azpilicueta. Penalty slotted home well. 5

Fernando Llorente: After a non-existent first-half, the Spaniard battled well to head home Spurs’ first. Taken off for Moura on 65 minutes. 6

Subs:

Danny Rose: On for Davies after 30 minutes. Wicked cross to set up Llorente and drew several fouls with his attacking play. 7

Lucas Moura: Replaced Llorente on 65 minutes. Got in behind Chelsea but shot into side-netting. Had penalty saved to set up Chelsea’s win. 5

Davinson Sanchez: Sissoko’s replacement late on. 5
