Gonzalo Higuain: Chelsea striker’s awful Premier League debut in numbers
Chelsea’s 4-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth was one to forget for all concerned.
Loan striker Gonzalo Higuain, though, will have wanted a better debut in the English top flight after his switch from Juventus.
The ex-Napoli and Real Madrid had been at AC Milan prior to his January transfer but scored just six league goals in 15 Serie A appearances at the San Siro.
And his poor form seems to have followed him to Stamford Bridge as he failed to fire against the Cherries on a dire nigh on the south coast.
Gonzalo Higuain: The statistical trend which shows new Chelsea signing might only score five goals this season
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri had high hopes for Higuain and prior to the deal being completed, he said: “He’s a very strong striker. Especially in my first season in Naples. He did very well. He scored 36 goals in 35 matches in Serie A. That season he scored 39 goals. So he did very, very well. For sure, he is one of the best strikers in my career.”
Sadly, Higuain might be in for a troubled start with Sarri also admitting the player has a minor back problem.
