Arsenal transfer latest: Denis Suarez says goodbye to Barcelona in social media post ahead of Gunners move

Denis Suarez has said goodbye to Barcelona ahead of completing a loan move to Arsenal.

Suarez, the midfielder, is set to join the Gunners on loan for the remainder of the season, with the north London club having the option of signing him permanently in the summer.

Barcelona announced Suarez’s switch to the Emirates on Wednesday, with a statement confirming he had signed a new contract until 2021 before linking up with Arsenal.

“FC Barcelona and Denis Suarez have reached an agreement for the extension of the player’s contract with the club, which ended on 30 June 2020, until 30 June 2021,” the statement read.

“FC Barcelona have also agreed a loan deal for Suarez with Arsenal for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. The Premier League club will pay the player’s salary during this time and the agreement includes an option to buy.”

However, the LaLiga giants later removed the statement and there has been no confirmation from Arsenal that the move has, as of yet, gone through.

They have until 11pm tonight to complete the deal.

The 25-year-old has, however, all but confirmed his switch to Arsenal himself, with a goodbye message to Barcelona posted on social media platform Twitter.

Suarez, who played under Arsenal boss Unai Emery while the pair were at Sevilla, looks set to leave Barcelona having made 71 appearances for the Camp Nou outfit.

Arsenal are also in talks to complete the deadline day signing of Christopher Nkunku, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, on loan.
