Mkhitaryan & Carrick could miss EFL final as Bailly picks up Europa League suspension

The midfielders were replaced by Marcus Rashford & Bastian Schweinsteiger, while the defender was shown red

Manchester United face a nervous wait after Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Michael Carrick both picked up injuries during their side’s Europa League clash against Saint-Etienne on Wednesday, while Eric Bailly will miss the club’s next European clash after picking up a second yellow.

However, he was soon replaced by Marcus Rashford after leaving the field clutching his hamstring, leaving United sweating on his fitness just days before Sunday’s EFL Cup final against Southampton.

Carrick then followed the attacking midfielder off the pitch whilst clutching his leg in the second half, leaving the Red Devils with double the worry.

It is unknown whether either player has picked up a serious injury or whether United decided not to take any risks ahead of the showpiece event at Wembley in four days’ time.

Mkhitaryan, who joined United from Borussia Dortmund last summer, has excelled in recent months for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The 28-year-old has scored six goals and registered five assists in all competitions for United, who remain in four competitions under Mourinho’s stewardship.
